PRESS RELEASE

For the second time Georges Rousse is to be the subject of a monographic exhibition at the Catherine Putman Gallery, where three years ago his preparatory drawings had been shown for the first time in a gallery.

Georges Rousse creates his photographies by modifying the space through painting and architecture and optical games. It's only been a few years that the artist started showing the steps of his creation. In other words, sketches and on-site installations, prior to the final photography.

For this new exhibition, Georges Rousse will create an installation, which will remain during the show. From that intervention, the gallery will publish a new photography (edition of 30) showed along with his installation.

The gallery will also display some of his watercolours, part of Georges Rousse creation process. For him, the sheet of paper is the place of utopia, allowing his work to develop without any boundaries and keep trace of his investigations throughout spaces : "these drawings, projects, fictions, utopias are like my own memory, or at least like the memory of my work".

These watercolours represents projects or variants of his latest works (Clermont, Avignon, Saint-Rémy de Provence, Musée des beaux-arts, Nice, but also Vilnius, Bastia, Paraty in Brasil).

Some photographies will be shown and among these the artist's unpublished last installation (Paraty, Brasil, September 2010). After each installation Georges Rousse takes a Polaroid and some of those precious works will be also displayed at the gallery.
