The gallery Catherine Putman presents an exceptional set of drawings of the 60's - first parisian period - inspired by archaic calligraphy and a set of American drawings with more spaces, an handwritting more large but with the same psychic energy that always guides the artist and his work.


Georges Noël was born in Béziers, in 1924. He studies engineering and learns drawing and painting in Pau, where he spends his childhood. After the war, he is designer for an aeronautic company for 9 years. In 1956, he comes to Paris where he meets painters of "Les Nouveaux Réalistes". He is interest in Dubuffet, Fautrier, Fontana, Brassaï's "graffiti" and automatic writing. Then he invents a pictorial layer of sand and mixed pigments on which he engraves his writing movement. He works on paper with ink, charcoal and newspaper's collages. he paints and draws his first "Palimpsestes".


He moves to New York in 1969. He travels in Péru, Ecuador, Mexico and twelve years later he comes back in France. The firm Renault organizes an important solo show in Sénanque Abbey; he travels in Japan, Mali, Burkina-Faso et he is very passionate by Dogon culture.
